"Pop Life"
Chapter 62
"God it's hot," I say as Tony and I step off of the bus at our Miami hotel. Even though we're in Florida we're staying at a hotel so we can go to Atlanta after tomorrow night's show.
Tony looks up. "It might rain. I think this venue has a roof covering the stage though."
"That's good."
I start looking around as we slowly make our way to the front doors.
"What are you looking for? Or who are you looking for I should say?"
"I was wondering if the band's bus has gotten here yet."
"They're staying at a different hotel I think," he says holding the door open for me.
"What? Why?"
We walk inside and make our way to the front desk.
"Because this hotel was booked. Hi, Tony Avanto," he tells the woman behind the desk.
"So why didn't we get a room at the hotel they're staying at?" I ask resting my arms on the counter.
He looks down at me. "It's only one night…it's not going to matter."
I look down at my hands. "Yeah, I guess," I say softly.
After we check in we head on upstairs with Andre following closely behind us.
"Looks like I'm across the hall," Tony says handing me my key.
"How much time do I have until sound check?"
He looks at his watch. "A couple of hours."
I nod and unlock my door. "Thanks. I'll see you then."
I shut the door and find the light. There's a bouquet of Gerber daisy's on the dresser. I smile as I set my bag down and walk over to them. I smell them as I pull the card off the stick and open it up.
We need to make plans…soon.
I have missed you so much.
Call me at the Drake Hotel as
soon as you get in. We'll see each
other soon. I promise.
Sincerely (Much more than a friend),
Brad
I hold the card to my chest and smile. I could scream. How can one guy make me feel this way? I plop down on the bed and dial the hotel operator.
"Yes, the Drake Hotel please…thank you."
I wait for it to ring…as I do I twirl a flower between my fingers.
"Hi, Brad Rowe's room please."
The phone rings…and rings…and rings. It goes to the hotel voice mail.
"Hey Brad…it's me. I'm in my room now and I got the flowers…thank you. I have no idea what my schedule is like but we'll work out something. I've missed you too. Bye."
I hang up the phone and let my shoulders sulk. Suddenly there's a knock on the door.
"My two hours aren't up," I say walking to the door.
I open it and see Brad standing there…looking way too good for his own good.
"I just called you," I say.
"Really? Should I go check my messages?" he asks, giving me that killer smile.
"No…you can just come on in and tell me what kind of plans you have in mind so I can see how much free time I have."
I let him walk into the room.
"Nice flowers," he says as he walks toward the balcony.
"Thanks…check your messages for the thank you," I giggle.
"Nice view," he says nodding as he looks out the window.
"I haven't even checked it out yet."
"Come here," he says still staring out the window.
"Okay."
I walk over to him and he pulls me so that I'm standing right in front of him. Very close in front of him. He leans down and points into the distance.
"See that building over there with the three flags on the top?"
I duck my head a little bit and nod. "Yes."
"Okay, look to the right of that and there's a sailboat…"
"With the blue and white sail?"
"Yeah. We're going to go on that tomorrow."
"Really? Sailing?"
"Yep."
"Oh…I'll have to check my schedule…"
"Already done. Tony has me penciled in."
I turn around and look up into his eyes.
"Really? Why are you so good to me?"
He wraps his arms around my waist and shrugs as my hands move up to his shoulders.
"Because I kind of like you."
I smile with him and my mind begins to wander.
"Hey…don't go anywhere. Stay right here with me."
He lowers his mouth to mine and kisses me. It's not a kiss of desperation or longing. It's too gentle and sweet for that. He takes his time teasing my lips. Teasing my tongue with his tongue. When I can't stand the teasing I pull his head closer to mine so the kiss deepens.
He tightens his hold on me and stands up straight so that my feet are lifted from the ground. I giggle against his mouth as we continue to kiss. It had been so long since we've been able to do this…to get lost in a kiss like this. I feel him moving and suddenly, he sits down and I'm sitting on his lap.
I pull away from him just enough to catch my breath. Our foreheads are together as he pushes the hair from my face with his hands.
"I can't help myself when I'm with you," he says huskily. "You have to stop me when you feel uncomfortable, okay?"
I nod and lean into him again. I lightly nip at his lower lip and I feel his hands on my bare waist and they move up my back, underneath my shirt. He reaches my bra strap but doesn't do anything with it. He just keeps rubbing his hands against my skin. I want to get closer to him but am I getting too intimate if I move my legs around and straddle him? Oh, hell.
I turn around so that I am straddling his waist…his hands start to move even faster as I dig my fingers into his hair. The whole while kissing him. His hands are now at my waist again. Now he's moving them over my stomach.
I'm shocked when he pushes me back a little bit.
"I've always loved your stomach," he says as he lifts my shirt up just enough to see my bare stomach. He runs his fingers over it.
He stands up, still holding me and then turns around, laying me down on the bed. Suddenly, I'm starting to get nervous…but I trust him. He won't do anything I don't want to do. Maybe that's what worries me.
He lifts up my shirt again and starts to kiss my stomach. I groan and my fingers find his hair again.
"Oh God…maybe…" but I can't finish my thought.
He takes my right hand and starts kissing it from my fingers on up my arm to my shoulder. He continues on up to my neck, jaw and back to my mouth.
I take a deep breath and feel my chest rub against his chest…which makes him moan.
One of our hands find each others and intertwine and he moves them so that they're above my head on the bed.
Suddenly he pulls away from me…leaning on his side, our hands still intertwined.
"Okay," he says in between breaths.
"What?"
He looks down at me and then looks away. "Oh God…don't give me that look."
"What? What did I do wrong?" I ask, trying to sit up but he keeps me down.
He looks back at me. "You didn't do anything wrong. It was me…I need to stop before things get out of control."
"I liked the way things were going."
He lets go of my hand and traces my cheek with his thumb.
"I did too…that's why we need to stop. We've never really talked about…"
This time I do sit up. "About sex?"
"Well…yeah. How far we wanted to take our relationship."
"Yeah," I say, nodding.
"I'll be leaving in a couple of weeks…"
"Shhhh," I say as I lean over and quiet him with a kiss.
"We have to deal with it, Adriana. I really care about you and I would like to still see you even after I'm not with the band."
I could feel my eyes begin to water. "I want to see you too."
"It will be hard…but I think we can work it out."
"I don't even know what my schedule's going to be like. It might not be bad and I can come see you…"
He smiles and nods.
"I just don't want to loose you as a friend…if things start to look that way…"
"Don't," I say touching his lips again. "I don't want to think that way."
He quickly nibbles my lips. "We have to be logical."
I sit back a little and pout. "I don't want to be logical. I'm sixteen…that's too young to be logical."
He smiles and his hand rubs up and down my arm.
"God, why did you have to remind me that you're sixteen?"
"Why…do you forget?" I ask smiling.
"After what we just did…hell yeah."
I laugh. "I'm a virgin."
He holds my hand. "I kind of figured that."
When he sees the look on my face he quickly says, "I don't mean that in a bad way. I mean, I would expect that from you because you don't make hasty decisions."
"Are you?"
"A virgin?"
I nod.
He looks down at his hands and then looks back up at me. "No. I had a pretty serious girlfriend, remember? We were each other's firsts. She has been my only."
"Well yeah…that makes sense."
Suddenly I feel awkward.
"It's important to be with someone whom you care about…and respect," he says taking my hand, probably noting my uneasiness.
"I know. I do care about you."
"What are you saying?"
"I…I don't know. I want it to be right and I don't know if…" I look down at our hands.
He lifts my chin so that I'm looking into his eyes.
"We're not ready. We'll know when we are."
I smile and nod.
"How do you know me so well?"
He leans down and kisses me. "I don't know…I'm lucky, I guess."
"Hey mom," Cody says walking onto the patio where Britney is relaxing on a lounge chair, reading a book.
"Hey sweetie."
He stands beside her and waits for her to look up at him again.
"Is there something you need?"
He nods.
"I was looking over Adriana's notes for her performance for the VMA's…"
"Okay…and?" she asks as she sets her book down.
"I have an idea."
"For her performance?"
He nods.
"We did this scene in school today and it made me think of something for her song. She's singing Wanted, right?"
She scoots over so he can sit down.
"I think that's the song she's doing."
"Well, I thought of something…I wonder if she'd listen to me."
Britney's eyebrows furrowed. "Of course she will. You'll have to call her though, she won't be coming home until after the awards."
"Okay. I'll call her cell phone now," he says standing up. "Mom?" he asks as he reaches the patio door.
"Yes?" She puts her book down that she had just picked back up.
"I haven't said anything to you about the baby yet…"
She smiles. "That's okay…"
"I think it's great. I hope everything is okay. Let me know when he starts kicking okay?"
She laughs. "He?"
"Yeah, I need another boy in this family to even things out."
She throws her head back this time and laughs. "We'll just have to wait and see."
He nods and walks into the house. She picks up her book again and smiles.
Later that night Britney crawls into bed after getting off the phone with Adriana.
"How is she doing?" Justin asks.
"She's good. She's got a date with Brad tomorrow. He's taking her sailing."
"Sailing?"
"Uh huh."
"In Miami?"
She pulls the sheets up to her waist.
"Yeah, that's where the tour's at for two nights."
She's sitting in the bed while he's lying next to her. He moves closer so that his head is in her lap.
"Being on a boat in Miami…does that bring back memories?" he asks.
"Hmmm, I remember the last time we were in Miami," she says rubbing her stomach.
Justin smiles and kisses where her hand is. "I still need to figure out a good nickname."
"But that was at our condo…not on a boat. Let's see…" She playfully taps her temple like she's trying to think.
Justin yanks her down so that she's lying underneath him.
"Maybe this reminds you," he says as he kisses her favorite spot behind her ear.
She moans. "I can't remember anything when you do that."
He takes her left hand and starts to kiss her fingers and he stops on her ring finger and wiggles his eyebrows up and down.
"Remember?"
She laughs. "I got a manicure on a boat?"
He gently bites her finger.
"Owww…okay Justin, I'm not stupid." She pulled his face closer to hers. "That's where I said the one word that changed my life forever. Yes."
He smiles before he kisses her. "My four words were pretty important too."
She shrugs. "I guess."
"You couldn't have said your one word if I hadn't asked my four."
He kisses her again.
"I could have said yes anyway."
He laughs against her mouth. "I would have thought you were nuts. But I would have loved you anyway."
"Cody has an idea for Adriana's performance at the VMA's."
"Nice change of subject and mood," he says rolling off of her.
"It just popped in my mind. I think he called her this evening and left her a message. That's why she called but of course he's at Dave's house now."
"Did he give you a hint as to what kind of idea?"
She started to twirl one of the curls on top of his head around one of her fingers. "No…just something he thought of at school. She's very curious."
"Where's Ashleigh?"
"At your mom's," she giggles.
He starts running his hand up her leg.
"And why are we still clothed when we have no children at home?"
"Hmmm, why don't you do something about it?" she says in a soft tone because his hand had now moved to her breasts.
"Pushy, aren't we?"
"I will be," she moans.
