"Pop Life"

Chapter 15

"Mama, where's Wade's phone number?" I ask as I walk into the kitchen.

She's sitting at the table, drinking her coffee and reading a book.

Daddy walks in from the back deck.

"It's not in the address book?" she asks.

I shake my head no.

"What?" daddy asks.

"Wade's phone number."

"Oh, I think I know where it is," he says as he leaves the room.

I sit down next to mama and clasp my hands together.

"Good book?"

She nods and then looks at the clock.

"It's kind of early to be calling him."

"I'll wait. I just want to have it so I don't forget to call him."

She stands up and takes her coffee cup to the sink and rinses it out. "You ready to go?"

"Yep."

"Here it is," daddy says as he walks back into the room.

I take the piece of paper and look at it. "Thanks. I'll see you later," I say as I stand on my tiptoes to kiss his cheek.

"Have fun."

"I will."

"I'll be right there," mama says to me as I head for the car.

She looks at Justin who is still standing in the doorway, looking down at his feet.

"Did you know about that?" she asks him.

He nodded. "Yes, she mentioned it to me the day she heard the remix."

Britney nods.

"Are you okay with this?"

Justin finally looked up at her. His heart melted when he saw how nervous she was to ask him this.

"Yes. He's a good choreographer…one of the best and if that's what she wants and he's willing to do it then I'm more than okay with this," he said taking her hands. "How do you feel about it?"

She shrugged and looked into his eyes. "Like you said…he's one of the best and that's what we want for our babies."

"Got that right," he said leaning down to kiss her. "Now, have a good day. Make her work her ass off."

She smiled and kissed him again. "I will. I love you," she said as she touched his cheek.

"I love you too."

I came running over to mama.

"How do you think it's going so far?" I asked as I took the towel from her and dried off my face.

She smiled. "You're looking good. You pick up on these moves quickly."

"Hmmm, I wonder where I get that from?" I chuckle. "Oh, can I use your phone? I'll call Wade now."

"Right now?" she asked as she dug through her purse to find the phone.

"Yeah, I want to get him before he's all booked up."

She laughs and hands me the phone. "Okay then."

I take the phone and the piece of paper my daddy gave me and walk to the back of the room.

Wade's cell phone rang. He looked at the display and it read B. Timberlake. He felt his heart fall to the pit of his stomach. He took a deep breath and clicked the talk button.

"Robson here."

"Oh hi…Wade? This is Adriana Timberlake."

He smiled. She sounded just like Britney.

"Well hello Adriana Timberlake."

"You remember me?" I ask.

He chuckled. "Yes, of course I remember you. It wasn't that long ago since I've seen you. How are you doing?"

"I'm doing fine, thank you. How are you?"

"Good…can't complain. Congratulations on your album. I listened to it the other day…very very good."

I blush. "Well, thank you. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you knew it was me."

"No denying you're Britney Spears' daughter. At least not to me. How is she doing?"

"Oh, mama's good. She's directing my set."

"You're set?"

"Yes, I'm opening up for Marcus Tyler."

"Wow, that's great. Good for you."

"Thank you. Well, I won't keep you I just wanted to ask you something…and if you can't do this then I understand."

"Okay, ask away."

"I'm going to do a remix version of one of mama's songs for the Icon special they're doing for her…and I'd like for you to choreograph it."

Wade had recently heard there was going to be an Icon about Britney.

"Wow…Adriana I haven't choreographed in awhile now…"

"I know, but I thought it would be so perfect to have you do it. You were such a big part of mama's career. It would kind of be like coming full circle."

He swore under his breath so she couldn't hear him.

"Ummm, I'd have to look at my schedule. Do you know when you'd be able to rehearse?"

"Shoot, not off the top of my head. I'll have to talk to Tony about that."

"Tony's your manager?"

"Yes."

"Well, give Tony my phone number and have him call me. We'll work out the details."

"So you'll do it?" I ask, trying not to jump up and down.

He laughs. "If it fits in the schedule then I'll do it."

"Oh thank you so much."

"Ana your five minutes are up," the choreographer yelled for her.

"Okay, I have to go but thanks again. I'll give Tony the number the next time I see him."

"You're welcome. Good luck with rehearsals."

"Thanks, bye."

I hang up the phone and run over to mama. "He said he'd do it if he could fit it into his schedule."

"That's great. Now go on, Andrew is calling for you."

"Okay," I say as I take a swig of water and go back to the dance floor.

"Daddy when are you going to stop by and see what we've done so far?" I ask before I take a drink of juice. I've been rehearsing for a few days and it's another early morning. We're in the kitchen waiting for mama.

"I'm going to wait until you do your full dress rehearsal. That way I'll be completely blown away."

I smile. "Okay."

"When can I come watch?" Ashleigh asks me as she hops up on the stool that I'm standing next to.

"You can come with daddy."

"Okay," she said excitedly.

"You ready?" mama asked as she breezed into the kitchen.

"Aren't you going to eat?" I ask.

"No time. I ran late this morning."

She took a drink of my juice and grabbed her purse. "Bye," she said to daddy giving him a quick kiss.

"Bye," he said.

"Bye sweetie," she said as she kissed Ashleigh's cheek.

"Bye mama, I love you."

Mama stopped in the doorway and turned around. She smiled at Ashleigh. "I love you too…and you too," she said blowing a kiss at daddy.

He acted like he caught the kiss and smiled.

She grabbed my hand and pulled me through the house.

"Bye," I yelled over my shoulder.

I could hear daddy chuckling.

"Mama, we can slow down a little bit," I said as we walked to the car.

"I'm so sorry I'm late today. I didn't sleep well last night."

"So that's what that noise was?" I ask as I got in the car.

Mama looked over at me and laughed. "I can't believe you just said that. I would have been so embarrassed even thinking about my parents having sex…but no, that wasn't the reason last night," she winked at me.

I shrug. "I know you have it, I'm not stupid."

"Okay, let's change the subject," she said as she turned the key in the ignition.

"Okay. When am I going to learn how to drive?"

"Hmmm, good question," she said backing out of the driveway.

We walked into the studio. This was our second day rehearsing with the band.

"Let's start with "It's OK to Cry" and we'll get your voice warmed up," George said.

"Sounds good," I said as I sat down on a stool that was right in front of where the band was set up.

I moved the stool over a little bit so I could see Brad. I loved the way he looked at me when I sang the ballads.

As I was singing, Tony walked into the room. He smiled and waved at me and then walked over to mama. He kissed her cheek and I could see them talking. Mama kept nodding her head.

I finished the song and Tony walked over to me.

"Hey, long time no see," he said giving me a hug.

"I know, I was kind of getting used to having you around."

"I have good news. I talked to Wade yesterday and he'll have time to practice with you a few days before the show."

"He can? How many days will we have?"

"We're going to try for three. It will be hard because you'll be opening for Marcus too, but Wade's willing to be flexible."

"That's great. Did you tell mama?"

He nodded. I looked over at her and she gave me two thumbs up. I laughed.

"Wow, I can't believe he's going to do this for me. Did you have to talk him into it?"

He shakes his head. "Not really. The main thing he was concerned with was that it would fit in with his schedule. He doesn't want to rush your rehearsals for it so if that means even working half days with you he was willing to do that. You sounded good there, by the way. I can't wait to see how much you guys have gotten done."

"Well, go stand by mama and you'll see."

"I will," he chuckled as he walked back over to mama.

Andrew walked over and said, "Okay, we'll start with Mind Games."

I took my place on the dance floor and as soon as the music started, I was transformed. It's like I become a different person once that music starts. I hit every mark on every note. As the last note hits, I'm kneeling on the floor with one hand straight in front of me. I try to control my breathing and I hear the applause.

I laugh and look over at mama, Andrew and Tony who are all standing to the side clapping.

"That was the best yet," Andrew said.

"When's the vocal coach coming by?" Tony asked Britney.

"Later today. She's got the choreography down pat, now she needs to learn to sing with it."

He nods.

After a few more times through some songs, we get to take a lunch break. I walk over to get a drink and Tony hangs up the phone.

"Where's mama?" I ask looking around.

"She had an errand to run. She'll be back."

I nod.

"We've got an interview with MTV."

"Concerning the tour?"

He nods.

"And I told them to ask you about Icon…which will lead into the "mom" question."

"Okay. Who's the interview with?" I ask as I take another sip.

"Probably Rick. You seem to work well with him."

I smile. "He's a nice guy."

Out of the corner of my eye I catch Brad walking out the door with his head down. After listening to Tony tell me a few more details about my schedule I don't even need to know about, I excuse myself, grab and apple and head out the door. I jog down the hall.

"Did you see a guy walk through here a minute ago?" I ask the receptionist.

"One just walked outside…he went to the right."

I nod. "Thanks."

I casually walk outside and look around. I see Brad sitting on a bench under a big tree so I walk towards it. He looks up when he notices me coming.

"Hi," he said and scooted over so there was room for me on the bench.

"Hi. It's a nice day," I say as I sit down.

He nods. "You've been kicking ass. I was surprised to find out that you learned most of that choreography in a few days."

"Well…I mean, it's only a couple of songs. I already knew the choreography for Wanted." I shrug. "It just comes naturally to me."

"I guess with your parent's and all…"

"Yeah."

"Do you get tired of that?" he asked.

"Of what?" I ask as I look over at him. He's got a nice profile.

"Of being compared to your parents? Or maybe not compared but people expect certain things from you because of it?"

I look at my feet that are dangling from the bench. "It hasn't happened much yet. That's why I'm going by the name of Ana. So that people listen to me because of me…not because of my parents."

"That makes sense…but it's going to happen sooner or later."

"Yeah. I have an interview with MTV in a couple of days and I'm sure that will be addressed."

"You don't sound happy about that. Tell them you don't want to do it."

"Sometimes Brad, you have to do stuff you don't want to do…I've learned that already. It will be okay."

He smiled. "I'm sure it will."
