Careless Mistake

Part 46

Early June 2005.......

Mackenzie wandered over to the couch and picked up a Cheerio and looked at it.  She studied it carefully before putting it in her mouth.

"Yuck," she said while spitting it out.

The bass coming from the stage down the hallway reverberated against the walls.  She was used to this.  After all she had been on tour with her daddy for three whole weeks now.

"Yeah, mama.  I'll make sure I see her when we get there."

Britney twirled her hair around her finger.

"No, I wouldn't feel comfortable staying with her."

Mackenzie saw something colorful sticking out of one of the drawers of a cabinet so she waddled over there.  She smiled and grabbed it but it wouldn't budge so she jerked it harder.  The drawer slowly started to open.

"I'm just tired, mama," Britney sighed.

Mackenzie cooed when she saw a drawer full of goodies.  Lots of colorful things.  She grabbed a green scarf and pulled it out, plopping down on her butt as she did.  She held the scarf up and reached over to grab her doll.  She pulled it onto her lap and wrapped the scarf around the doll's body.

"Maybe we need a break.....away from all of this," Britney continued.

"Are you and Justin okay?" Lynne asked.

"Yeah, we're fine it's just the touring schedule.  It's not as easy with a toddler.  I used to be able to go watch Justin perform and sit there in awe as I stared at him.  I have yet to see his whole set."

"Just have someone watch Mackenzie.  You know they will."

"I know, mama.  But you know what I mean.  It's just not the same."

Finally Britney turned around and noticed that Mackenzie was sitting on the floor with a drawer full of scarves covering her lap.  She covered her mouth with her hand and smiled.

"Mama, I have a mess to clean up by my little fashion designer so I'll talk to you tomorrow."

Lynne chuckled.  "I can only imagine.  I love you."

"Love you too.  Bye."

Britney hung up and set the phone down.  She walked over to where Mackenzie was sitting and stood over her.  This made Mackenzie look up and smile at her mommy.

"Ma ma," she said, holding up her doll.

"Isn't she beautiful?  How did you get into this drawer?" Britney asked, picking up some of the scarves and tossing them back into the drawer.

"Dowwie," Mackenzie said.

"Yes, that's your dolly and she's very pretty," Britney said, taking it from her and looking at the ensemble Mackenzie created for it.

"Da da?" Mackenzie asked, holding out her arms.

"Daddy's on stage right now, angel."

She glanced up at the clock.  He was probably two-thirds of the way done with his set.

"You want to go see him?"

Mackenzie smiled and nodded.

"Okay, let me find those earplugs," she said, standing up.  "Put these back for mommy, okay?"

Mackenzie was very good at cleaning up so she stood up and started to put the scarves away, one by one.

Britney found the earplugs.  She finally got the rest of the mess cleaned up and put on a bucket hat and picked Mackenzie up.

"Ready to go see daddy?" she asked, balancing her on her hip.

"Da da," Mackenzie said, clapping her hands.

"It's going to be loud....okay?  There's going to be a lot of lights," she said, opening the door to the dressing room.

The music penetrated through the hallway.  Mackenzie clung onto Britney tightly because this was new territory for her.

They walked around the back of the stage to the side barricade.  She smiled up at the security guy and he let her walk by.  She stood toward the front of the stage but off to the right of it a little.

Mackenzie couldn't take it all in fast enough.  There were lights flashing and the music was playing and there were so many people.  Only a couple of girls noticed Britney but didn't react to her.

Justin finished his song by dancing to the front of the stage.  Mackenzie finally saw him and said, "da da," only no one could hear her over the noise.

When the audience screamed and applauded, this startled Mackenzie a little so she gripped Britney's neck tighter but kept an eye on her daddy.

He started to next song and ran to the back of the stage to get a towel.

"Thank you so much Dallas," he said, wiping his face off.  "You guys have been a great crowd tonight."

He started to sing again and his dancers joined him in the middle of the stage.  Britney started to bounce a little to the music and Justin and a few of the dancers made their way to the right side of the stage.  Justin looked over her and Mackenzie to the crowd on the side of the arena.  He smiled and waved and pointed a couple of times as he sang.  Finally something caught his eye and he looked straight down and Britney and Mackenzie.

Britney smiled up at him and he pointed and smiled at them, touching his heart as he did.

Mackenzie saw this and waved wildly.

Now, this action did catch the eye of a few more people who started to nudge each other and point at Britney but they didn't pay attention to that.  Their eye was on the man on the stage, who held both of their hearts.

Mackenzie lasted all the way up to the beginning of the last song but by then she was getting restless and wanted down so Britney went backstage again.  When she got to the dressing room she gathered the few things she'd need on the bus and took Mackenzie's hand.

"Come on, we're going to go bye-bye," she said.

Mackenzie looked up at her, clutching her dolly.

"Bye bye," she repeated.

They walked back down the hallway to the exit where the buses were.

"Hey JD," she said to one of the guards as he led her through the maze of trucks and buses.

"Hello Miss Britney.  We were just about to pull the bus around."

"Aw, I should have waited another minute," she kidded.

Mackenzie was following along as quickly as her little legs could take her.

"Dowwy," Mackenzie said, so Britney looked down and noticed that she had dropped her doll a few feet back.

"Oh goodness," she said, bending down, picking up the doll and then picking up Mackenzie.  "Come on, we've got to hurry."

"Huwwy," Mackenzie repeated.

They got onto the bus and Britney set her daughter down.

"Woom," she said walking to the back of the bus.

JD chuckled.  "Home away from home, huh?"

"Yeah....she's got her bunk made into her own little play haven.  Thanks."

"Good night Miss Britney," he said before shutting the door.

The bus started to move so Britney made sure Mackenzie had her feet firmly planted on the ground but it was too late, she had been climbing up into her bunk and lost her balance when the bus jerked.  She was sitting on the floor, crying.  There was a little blood on the corner of her lip.

"Oh baby....come here," Britney said, pulling her up and sitting down on the couch out in the family area.  "Where are you bleeding?"

Mackenzie kept crying and was trying to push Britney's hands away.

"Ow ma ma.  Huwt."

"I know it does, but I'm trying to find out where."

Finally she noticed the bottom part of her lip where the blood seemed to be coming from.  Britney leaned down and quickly kissed her on the lips.

"You're fine," she said, pulling her head to her chest and stroking the back of her head.

Mackenzie quieted down and the bus stopped moving.  The door opened and she could hear a lot of ruckus coming from outside.

"Daddy will be here soon," she whispered against her hair.

Within a few minutes Justin bounded up on the bus, the door closed and he sat down next to them.

"Hey," he said wiping his face with a towel.

"Hey," Britney smiled at him.  "Good show?"

"Yeah.....good crowd," he said, a little out of breath.  "Hey angel...." he said, rubbing Mackenzie's back.

Mackenzie only looked up at him, keeping her head where it was.

"She bit her lip," Britney said, pulling her lip away a little to show Justin.

"Awwww.  Poor baby," he pouted.  "Did you like watching daddy up on stage?"

Mackenzie nodded against Britney's chest.

"She didn't want to leave," Britney chuckled.

"What made you decide to bring her out?" he asked, leaning back in the seat.

Britney shrugged.  "Just something I thought of doing.   She was getting into messes anyway so I thought a little daddy diversion would be good.  I think I've created a monster though.  She'll want to watch you every night."

"Is that a bad thing?" he smirked.

"No....of course not.  I could watch you every night," she said leaning over to give him a quick kiss.  "Yuck....go take a shower."

He laughed.  "You used to find it sexy," he said wiggling his eyebrows up and down.

"Past tense," she said pushing his back so he'd stand up.

"Oh all right."

Later when he emerged from the shower, Britney was sitting on the bed, reading a book.

"Mackenzie down?" he asked, towel drying his hair.

"Yeah.  It didn't take much."

She looked up at him and smiled as she noticed that he was only wearing a towel.  She set her book down and stared at him.

"I'm going to go kiss her goodnight," he said leaving the small area they considered their room.

Britney sighed and slouched down onto the bed more.  She looked down at her nighty and unbuttoned the first few buttons so that a lot of her cleavage was showing.

When Justin came back into the room he plopped down on the bed, sat back against his pillow and picked up the remote.  Britney turned her head and stared at him.

She cleared her throat but that didn't get his attention so she looked down at his towel and carefully untucked the corner and let it fall on the bed.  This only exposed a part of his hip, though.

Slowly her eyes wandered up his body and she noticed a few drops of water running down his shoulder from where his hair was still dripping so she leaned over and kissed where one of the drops was.

Justin glanced down quickly and smiled at her before looking back up at the TV.  He continued to flip through the channels so Britney decided to be bold.  She turned her body and started to trace her finger along his arm up to his shoulder.  She placed tiny kisses along his collarbone on up to his neck.

Justin still kept an eye on the TV.  Britney glanced up to see what was preoccupying him so much and grunted when she noticed it was The Weather Channel so she continued to undo the towel and throw it over the other side of his hips so he was completely exposed to her.  She began to rub his thigh and was now kissing the spot right under his ear.  She heard his breath catch but he still acted like he wasn't paying attention to her.

After a few more minutes of this, she decided she wasn't going to fight him for this attention so she flopped back down on the bed and turned over so she wasn't facing him.  Within a second she was turned over and his body was covering hers.

He chuckled as he began unbuttoning the rest of her nighty.

"I can't believe you gave up so easily," he mumbled against her neck.  "You couldn't tell you were getting to me?"

"Well, I could tell with one part of your body but the rest of you didn't seem interested," she said, running her fingers through his wet curls.

He lifted his head to look into her eyes.

"I was just going to see what you were going to do to me.  I was having fun, even though you were driving me mad."

She wrapped one of her arms around his body and began to squeeze his bottom.

"Good.  And I thought you were just tired."

He shook his head, which caused a few drops of water to fall on her, "No, I'm too hyped up to be tired."

He removed her nightgown, leaving her only in her bikini underwear.  He had to move his leg, which had been propped between her knees so he could pull it all the way down.

"Mackenzie was sleeping, right?" she asked, breathlessly.  She started to move underneath him.

"Uh huh," he said, kneeling between her thighs.

He stared down at her and let his hands wander up her body, making sure he touched every inch.

"Beautiful," he said before scooting down, lifting her hips and entering her.

She grabbed his shoulders and threw her head back as he began to thrust into her.  She could feel her heart beating like crazy and when he pressed down closer to her body, she could feel his heartbeat joining hers at a mad pace.

Justin took his time making love to her, bringing her to a peak before they crashed together.

He rolled over to his side, taking her with him and she studied his face as she caressed his cheek.  His eyes were closed as they both fought to catch their breath.

"I hope I wasn't too loud," she whispered.

A small smile formed on his lips.

"Mackenzie's a heavy sleeper."

Britney smiled and touched his lips with her finger.  "I was thinking more about the bus driver."

Justin opened one eye and chuckled at her.

"I don't think you were that loud.  He pretty much has his music turned up so he doesn't fall asleep."

"I love you.  Have I told you that today?" she asked, resting her chin on her hand, which was placed over his heart.

"I'm sure you did sometime today but I like hearing it."

They were silent for awhile, enjoying the feel of each other's body.

"Are you getting bored?" Justin asked.

Britney thought he had fallen asleep so this startled her.

"Right now?"

He lifted his head up a little and adjusted it on the pillow so he could look at her.

"No, I mean on this tour."

She shrugged.  "Sometimes.  Mackenzie isn't bored though."

He shook his head.  "No, there's too much for her to get into.  Is there something else you want to do?"

She pulled her leg up over his and scooted up a little, which made the sheet fall away from her body a little bit.

"Like what?"

"I don't know.  You tell me."

"Justin.....there's no where else I'd rather be than with you.  I mean in a few weeks I'll have to run back to LA to do some audio for the movie so there's that...."

He nodded.

"I just don't want us to get.....old, I guess."

She reached up and cupped the back of his head.

"With a night like tonight, how can things get old?"

He gave an evil sounding chuckle.  "True.  But you know what I mean."

"I'm okay, Justin.....really.  I'll try to be a conventional mom....just on a tour bus instead of a house."

He wrapped his arm around her tighter and shut his eyes again.

"You make a good mom, no matter where we are."

She sighed and wrapped one of his curls around her finger.  This was her security blanket and she drifted off to sleep quickly.
