Careless Mistake

Part 38

Early January 2005.......The Wedding Day

Justin smiled as he saw one of his best friends running towards them.

"Sorry," JC chuckled.  "She should be right behind me," he told the small group.

"I'm glad you're here," Justin said.

Finally Justin heard a couple of people in the back oohing and aahing so he knew that they spotted Britney.  His heart did flip flops when he finally saw her on the arm of her father.  She kept her eyes focused on him until she got to the group of people and as they created an aisle for her, she greeted them each with a smile or a wave and they closed the circle back up behind them so that everyone was as close to Justin and the minister as possible.

"Ma ma," Mackenzie said when Britney got close.

Lynn was holding her so Britney stopped and gave her daughter a kiss on the cheek.  She quickly rubbed the lipstick off of her cheek before finally taking her place next to the man she was going to marry.

"Hi," he said, leaning down and giving her a kiss on the cheek and holding onto her free hand.

"Hi," she smiled back at him.

Jamie and Lynne stood behind Britney.

The rest of the group gathered completely around the minister and the couple.

The minister began... "Family and friends of Justin and Britney we of course are gathered here today to celebrate the love and friendship of these two soul mates.  Who gives their blessing for this union?"

"Her mother and I do," Jamie said.

"And so do we," Lynn said, with her free arm around her husband.

"And we do," Randy said, standing next to his wife and two sons.

Justin and Britney smiled at both of their families as they did this.

The minister continued with a reading from the bible.  When Mackenzie started to get a little fussy, Justin reached over and took her from his mom and held her in the arm that wasn't holding Britney's hand.  This seemed to be good enough for her so she rested her cheek against his shoulder.  Britney smiled up at her daughter and caressed her cheek.

"Now Justin and Britney will exchange vows that they wrote for each other," the minister said.

Justin shifted Mackenzie against his shoulder a little bit while Britney gave her bouquet to Laura Lynn.  She turned back to Justin and held his free hand in both of hers and smiled up at him.

"Well," he started.  "I guess I'll start with the beginning......M-I-Ccccccccc....."

Everyone in the group started to chuckle, including Britney, who covered her mouth with one of her hands.  Seeing everyone laugh made Mackenzie giggle, but she never moved her head from her daddy's shoulder.

"But seriously.....it's not every day that you meet your future soul mate when you're twelve.  I knew there was something special about you back then and I was right.  You're special for so so many reasons," he said, shaking his head.  "You're the woman that I love.  You're my best friend and you're the mother of our gorgeous daughter..."

Britney smiled up at Mackenzie who was looking back at her with wide innocent eyes.

"And now I'm going to make you my wife so that I know I can say those things for the rest of my life.  I'll never doubt you or make you doubt me.  I love you with all of my heart and soul."

Britney slightly stuck her lower lip out.

"Okay....my turn," she said, taking a deep breath.  "That was beautiful, by the way.  I don't know how I'm going to top that."

A few people chuckled and Justin just smiled at her.

"But I do know that I won't start off by singing the Mickey Mouse Club song," she giggled.

He winked at her.

"When I was growing up, I always had a feeling that I'd meet and marry my Prince Charming.  There was only a brief time where I actually thought my fairy tale was shattered....but fate stepped in and brought us together again," she said, touching Mackenzie's leg.

With this touch, Mackenzie decided she needed to be with her mommy so she pushed away from Justin and held her arms out for Britney.  When Britney took her from Justin she immediately rested her head against Britney's shoulder and Justin continued to hold Britney's free hand.

"Anyway," Britney continued, "my fairy tale has come true for both Mackenzie and I.....and for our future children.  As long as we're together I'll be living happily ever after in our castle...wherever that may be.  Sometimes I think you're too good to be true and I have to pinch myself.  But then I see you smile at me or see you holding Mackenzie and I realize what I have is real.  I'll never doubt you or make you doubt me.  I love you with all of my heart and all of my soul."

Lynne sighed as she dotted the corner of her eyes with her tissue.

"That was beautiful, thank you for sharing that with us," the minister said.

He motioned for Trace to hold out the wedding bands.

"The wedding ring is the outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual bond which unites two loyal hearts in endless love. It is a seal of the vows Justin and Britney have made to one another. God bless these rings, that Britney and Justin, who give them, and who wear them, may ever abide in thy peace. Living together in unity, love and happiness for the rest of their lives."

Britney shifts Mackenzie from her left hip to her right hip so she can hold her left hand out while Justin takes her band from Trace and holds it to her ring finger.

"Britney, this ring is to show my love and devotion to you and our family forever.  I love you," he said as he slid the ring on her finger.

He leaned down and quickly kissed her and then kissed Mackenzie's cheek.

Britney took the other ring from Trace and held it to Justin's left ring finger that he was holding out for her.

"Justin, this ring is to show my love and devotion to you and our family forever.  I love you."

She slid the ring on, with a little help from him since her other arm was preoccupied.

"In as much as you have each pledged to the other your lifelong commitment, love and devotion, I now pronounce you husband and wife.  Justin and Britney, congratulations.....you may celebrate your commitment to each other with a kiss," the minister said.

Justin smiled and leaned down, putting one hand behind Mackenzie's back while the other hand cupped her cheek.  They shared a slow and deliberate kiss to signify their unity while their family and friends cheered around them.

"I love you," he said, slightly pulling away from her lips so only she could hear amongst the cheers.

"I love you too," she said, her tears starting to fall.

"Ma ma.....da da," Mackenzie said.

When they pulled apart, they were seperated from each other pretty quickly by their family and friends who were congratulating them.

Slowly they were all making their way back to the walkway because there was a bus that was going to take them to a local restaurant where there was a private room ready for the reception.

"This is Mary Hart....our own Mark Steines has been on location at St. Paul's church in Beverly Hills where it was rumored that Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears were finally going to get married at today.  Mark, what's the scoop?"

"Thanks Mary.  Justin and Britney have always been good at toying with the media in their own way.  Today was no exception.  Rumors were flying around LA that the young couple and parents to daughter Mackenzie were going to tie the knot today, here in this Beverly Hills church," he said with a nod of his head.  "But at the time the ceremony was supposed to start, we were in for a big surprise."

Flash to a video of the church doors and a banner being dropped that said.

Thank you for coming to the Justin and Britney show that never was....
at least not here, anyway.
Stay tuned.
Love Justin and Britney

Flash back to split screen of Mary and Mark.

"Wow, pretty harsh," Mary said, chuckling.

Mark shrugs.  "How can you be mad at them?  If they' did get married somewhere today I know that the ET family wishes them all the best.  Back to you Mary."

"Thanks Mark."

Britney and Justin were almost the last to get on the bus.  Jamie Lynn had Mackenzie on her lap.

"She's getting sleepy," Britney said, touching her daughter's cheek.

All Mackenzie could do was blink.

"Where's mama?" Jamie Lynn asked.

"She's getting the diaper bag and Bryan's getting the carrier out of my car," Justin said.

Finally when everyone was aboard they all settled into their seats.  Britney leaned up against Justin and shut her eyes.

"Has it hit you yet?" he asked, rubbing his hand up and down her arm.

She giggled and shook her head.  "I don't think so.  But we did it, didn't we?"

He nodded.

"And without helicopters flying overhead or photographers hiding in the bushes...."

"It's a miracle," he laughed.

"I think she needs to be changed," Jamie Lynn said, from her seat across the aisle.

"So much for being a newlywed.  It's time to be mommy again," Britney said, scooting over to the edge of the seat.

Jamie Lynn rested Mackenzie on the seat next to her where Britney proceeded to change her diaper.

"Now there's a scene.  Woman in wedding dress changes infant on bus," Chris said, acting like he was making a headline story with his hand.

The few people that could hear him chuckled.

"A mom's work is never done," Britney said, picking Mackenzie back up and resting her over her shoulder.

Justin craned his neck around so he could talk to JC.

"So how in the hell did you make it, man?" Justin asked him.

"They finally let a flight out of LA.  I told them it was an emergency and even paid a few extra bucks to a couple of people to take their seat," he chuckled.

"Awww," Britney said.

"Hey, I can't miss two of my best friends that I've know forever getting married."

"Well, we're really glad you made it in time," Justin said.

When they got to the restaurant they were ushered to the back room.  Britney sat down and started feeding Mackenzie before she fell asleep.  Appetizers were ordered and drinks were served.

Right after dinner, Justin got Mackenzie to fall asleep and he gently laid her in her carrier and belted her in.  He set her down next to one of his aunts and rejoined Britney.

"Let's start the dancing," someone yelled.

"From This Moment" by Shania Twain started play so Justin stood up and held his hand out for Britney to take.  She smiled and slowly slid her hand in his and let him pull her up.

From this moment life has begun
From this moment you are the one
Right beside you is where I belong
From this moment on

They walked out to the area that was designated as the dance floor and slid their arms around each other.

"To think.....this whole thing restarted because of a dance very similar to this," he whispered in her ear.

She giggled.  "It wasn't quite like this."

I give my hand to you with all my heart
Can't wait to live my life with you, can't wait to start
You and I will never be apart
My dreams came true because of you

"I feel like we're the luckiest people alive right now," she sighed.

"I think we are...."

You're the reason I believe in love
And you're the answer to my prayers from up above
All we need is just the two of us
My dreams came true because of you

"Did you pick this song out?" she asked, looking up at him.

He smiled and nodded.  "Yeah, I remember at some point," he said shaking his head because he couldn't remember exactly when, "that you said you wanted this to be your wedding song."

She giggled.  "That was years ago but the words are still beautiful....and perfect, don't you think?"

From this moment as long as I live
I will love you, I promise you this
From this moment
I will love you as long as I live
From this moment on

"Perfect," he said, leaning down and ending their first dance together and husband and wife with a kiss.
