Careless Mistake

Part 27

Early October 2004...

Britney opened the door to the veranda that overlooked the ocean.  She smiled as she felt the warm air on her face.

"When was the last time neither one of us had an interview or a deadline of some kind to meet?" Justin asked as he walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her.  His cheek rested against hers as he looked out at the ocean.

"I don't know when," she sighed.  "But let's not think about it and just enjoy....And let's pray that the press has no idea where we are....."

"Shhhh, don't jinx us," he whispered against her hair.

"You're right, sorry," she giggled.

"So....what should we do first?"

"Let's go on the beach.  It feels like it's been so long since I've gotten to go play in the ocean and lay on the sand...."

"Okay, but first things first," he said walking back into their bedroom.  "Let's call your mom and reassure ourselves that Mackenzie is fine and let her know that we're fine and then we keep our pact," he said handing her the phone.

"I know....we can't check back up on her for forty-eight hours."  She dialed her mom's number.

"Exactly.  She's got our numbers in case there's an emergency," he said as he reached for his suitcase to start unpacking.

"Hey mama.  We're here."

"Everything's good?" Lynne asked.

"It's beautiful.  I don't remember the last time we saw a view like this.  And it's so quiet but there's a few people around.  It's nice," Britney smiled.

Justin smiled as he unpacked.

"Well good.  I'm glad you guys found a nice spot."

"How's Mackenzie?" she asked, biting her nail.

"She's doing great.  She isn't fussy or anything yet....I don't think she's realized that the two of you aren't here.  It might not hit her until later tonight or tomorrow maybe.  But she'll be just fine.  Jamie Lynn is going to be a big help."

"I'm sure she will be."

They talked for a few more minutes and when Justin got done unpacking his suitcase he started on Britney's.  The first thing he wanted to find was her bikini.  He smiled when he found it and held it up.

Perfect....not much there, he chuckled to himself.

"Okay....bye mama.  I love you too."

She hung up the phone and looked at it before hanging it up.

"Everything okay?" Justin asked as he walked around the bed to stand by her.

He wrapped his arms around her and rested his forehead against the side of her head.  She reached up and held onto his arm that was around her chest.

"Yeah, everything's fine."

"I miss her too," he said.

She took a deep breath and smiled.  "But this is about you....and me," she said looking to her right and kissing him.

"Let's go to the beach," he said, letting her go and walking over to the bed.  "I can't wait to see you in this."

He held up her white bikini and she laughed.  "I bet you can't," she said grabbing it from him.  "And what are you wearing?"

He held up his swim trunks and she stuck her tongue out.  "Guys get away with too much," she said, heading toward the bathroom.

"Hey, you don't want to see me in a Speedo," he said to the closed door.  He could hear her laugh through the door.

In a few minutes the door opened.  When she came out she folded her skirt and placed it on the bed.

When Justin didn't say anything she looked up and saw him sitting in one of the chairs across the room, staring at her.  She looked down to make sure she had everything tied or that nothing was twisted.

"What?" she asked.

"Come here," he said, not moving from his spot.

"Okay."

She walked over to him and he pulled her onto his lap.

"I don't want to go to the beach now," he whispered as he started to kiss her neck.  His hand went to her stomach.

She giggled.  "No, you can't do that to me.  We have to go to the beach now," she teased.

He pulled away and sighed.  "Oh all right.  You knew what you'd do to me wearing that thing," he said, referring to her bikini.

"Maybe," she said as she stood up and walked over to get a towel and her bag  She threw a large t-shirt on over her bikini and looked at him.  "Come on."

He stood up and grabbed his towel and they headed down to the walkway that led to the beach.

"Is here good?" Justin asked as he pulled up one of the covered lounger.

"It's perfect," she said, throwing her bag and towel down on it and looking out into the ocean.  "I forgot how beautiful this is," she shouted.

He chuckled as he pulled another lounger up.

"Let's go into the water," she said, holding her hand out.

He walked over to her and took it as they walked toward the water.  Slowly the waves started to hit their feet and Britney would scream a little and jump back.  Justin laughed.

"Come on, I thought you wanted to go in," he said pulling her as he walked in more.

Finally they waded into the water until it was up past their waists.  The waves started to crash into them a little bit harder and one of them hit Britney in the face.  Justin laughed as Britney coughed a little and wiped the water from her eyes.

"You okay?" he asked as his laughing died down.

"Yes," she said, splashing him in the face.

They continued to play in the water for awhile longer.

"I'm gonna go lay out," she said, swimming over to him.

He held his arms out and she let him wrap her in his arms as she wrapped her legs around his waist and sat on his semi-bent legs.

"This was fun," he said.

"It reminded me of Maui," she said, her smile bright.

He nodded.  "I was thinking the same thing.  Good times."

"Yeah," she sighed.

She gave him a quick kiss and headed up toward the beach.

Some time later she was laying on her stomach when she decided to look up and find Justin.  She held the towel up to her because she had untied the back of her bikini so she didn't get tan lines and she looked out into the water.  When she couldn't find him she put her sunglasses on and looked up and down the beach.  Still no sign.

Carefully she sat up and retied her bikini top while she kept an eye out for him.

"Justin!" she yelled.

She still couldn't see any signs of him.  She stood up so she could get a better look.  Maybe he started swimming and didn't realize he was wading down shore from her.

She pulled a watch out of her bag and looked at the time.  They left their room two hours ago and she knew that they weren't in the water any longer than thirty minutes which meant that she had been laying out for about an hour and a half.

She grabbed her bag and the towels and headed for the room.  Maybe she should call the hotel security and find out what she needed to do to help look for him.

When she got back to the room she called security and they told her to wait two more hours and then call them back.  Two hours....what was she going to do with two hours while she waited for him?  She sat down on the chair on the veranda and watched for him.  In about fifteen minutes there was a knock on the door.  She quickly stood up and walked over to it.

She couldn't help the tears that came to her eyes when she saw Justin through the peephole.  As soon as she opened the door she jumped into his arms.

"Don't ever scare me like that again," she said.

He could feel her heart pounding against his chest as he wrapped his arms around her tightly so she wouldn't fall down.  He walked into the room and closed the door.

"I didn't mean to scare you," he said, rubbing her back.  "I'm sorry.  I took a walk down the beach and found a great place to go eat one night.  I guess I walked down farther than I realized and had to come back.  When I did, your stuff was gone."

"I didn't know what else to do," she said, still not letting him go.

He kissed her shoulder and bent down so her feet were touching the ground.  He pulled her arms from around him and then touched her face.

"I'm sorry," he said.  He leaned down and gently kissed her.  "But you scared me too not being down there."

She gave him a shy smile.  "Well I'm sorry too then."

She leaned up and pressed her lips to his.  She opened her mouth and invited his tongue with hers.  When she pulled away, she licked her lips and pressed her fingers to them.

"Now that we've got that established," she giggled.  She looked him over.  "You got sun burned.  See, that's what you get for walking away from me.  I wasn't there to put more sun screen on you."

"It doesn't hurt......yet."

"Yet is the key word.  I have some aloe," she said rummaging through her bag.

Justin sat down and picked up USA Today that was sitting on the table and started reading it.

"Geez, that's cold," he said when she started to smooth the liquid over his shoulders and back without notice.

"You're such a baby," she giggled.

"Yes I am," he pouted.  "So....dinner tonight.  Does that place down on the beach sound good?"

"I was actually hoping for a romantic dinner on the veranda tonight.  I read somewhere they'll do that for you here."

"Yeah they do.  Okay, romantic dinner it is," he said setting the paper down.

When she was finished, she wiped her hands off on her t-shirt and kissed his cheek from behind him.  He turned in his chair and she sat down on his lap.

"You having fun?" he asked, moving some hair from her forehead.

She smiled.  "Yes......despite the fact that I thought you had gotten kidnapped," she said.

He laughed.  "Oh it's kidnapped now?  Not just wandered off anymore?"

"No, I just didn't know what had happened," she said sadly.  "A lot of different things came to my mind."

"Well, I'm fine and you're fine......and we're here on this beautiful island together," he smiled.

She was tracing a line around his shoulder.

"And we're hungry?" she questioned.

He chuckled.  "Okay."

He started to nibble on her neck, moving his way up to her jaw.  She ran her fingers through his hair and tilted her head back so he could have better access.  She started to move in closer to him and rubbed her chest against his a little bit.

"I meant for food," she said before he reached her lips.

He moaned as he pulled away.  "I knew that."

He stared at her for a second.  "Okay....let's get the menu."

"This is so good," Britney said, taking another bite of the lobster.

She smiled when she felt the warm breeze coming off of the ocean blew her hair back.

"You look beautiful tonight, have I told you that yet?" Justin asked before taking a bite of his lobster.

She smiled at him.  "Yes, you did, but thank you again.  And have I told you how gorgeous you look?"

She had on a white sundress in which the skirt was made of a flowy material but stopped right below her bottom and he had on white pants and a white shirt he had unbuttoned about halfway to show off his white tank underneath.

"I think you might have," he winked at her.

Britney looked around the veranda.  There were three torch lights lit and there was a bottle of champagne chilling for them.

"We need to come here again when we have more time," she said, sitting back in her chair.  "How did you find this place anyway?"

"I had my mom look for a place in the Caribbean that was somewhat secluded but inhabited," he chuckled.

"She did a good job."

He nodded.  "I have to agree.  You full?" he asked, noting how she was reclining in her chair.

"No, just taking my time, waiting for more room," she said, rubbing her stomach.

He chuckled.  "I see.  Well, save room for dessert," he said wiggling his eyebrows up and down.

"I didn't think I needed to have room for that," she said in a husky tone and leaning forward a little.

"Well for that kind of dessert you don't, but I did order two slices of Death by Chocolate cake."

She moaned.  "What are you trying to do to me?"

"I'm trying to seduce you with chocolate."

She laughed.  "You don't have to have cake to do that, but it doesn't hurt," she winked at him.
